Specifying Model Period

ISAM Toolbar Link
The default simulation time of 100 years should be sufficient for nearly all users and need not be changed. That being said, the ISAM model can simulate conditions for any prescribed time period. Our interface allows the user to direct the model to simulate atmospheric conditions for some useful periods between 10 and 200 years. All simulations begin at the year 2000. Choosing a smaller simulation period makes the model run faster- it does generate more detailed results..

To alter the time period for your particular atmospheric simulation, visit the period form by clicking the link. Then select your desired end year from the list, and click the Set Model and Period button.

Specifying Model Parameters

Initially all model parameters are set to default and can be ignored if one does not understand their significance. Changes made to the model parameters will be preserved throughout multiple runs of the model.

For those who do wish to test altered configurations of the underlying model, there are several modules with adjustable parameters. To alter these parameters, visit the form page of the given module, be it Carbon Cycle, Emission Lifetimes, or Climate/Ocean. Then change the value presented in the text box next to the specific parameter, and click the button at the bottom of the page to finalize your changes.

Specifying Model Scenarios

Model Scenarios are what most users will spend the most time manipulating. As with other portions of the model, changes made to any portion of the scenario will be preserved throughout multiple runs of the model.

There are several emission groupings with yearly emission values that can be edited. They are: CO2, CH4, N2O, CO, and SOx, PFC and SF6 Emissions, CFC's, Halos, CCl4, and MCF Emissions, HCFC and MB Emissions, and HFC Emissions.

To edit the emissions values of a given gas, visit the form page of the emissions grouping containing that particular gas. These pages can be reached directly from the ISAM Toolbar, found in the left frame when you are working with the model. A table of text boxes will present the currently set emissions values. To edit the value for any emission year, write the value into the text box and click the button at the bottom of the page. To specify an established scenario, click the appropriate box at the top of the page. This will change all the text boxes to be in line with the given scenario, and will finalize the changes as well. (Note that these scenarios are not available for all emission groupings.)
